I’ll be on vacation next week and I’ll have little or no Internet access (I know, I know - how will I survive? ;)).
The good news is: in my absence, Julie Marie, Eliza and Todd have kindly agreed to guest host CatE.
You probably recognize the names of Julie Marie and Eliza if you’ve read much here. Their fun, thoughtful comments are a major contribution to CatE. You can read more about them in their online interviews.
Todd is the webmaster for OTM and the pastor of a church in Pennsylvania. His personal blog is here. I know Todd has lots of interesting things to say - I’m very pleased he’ll be sharing some thoughts here next week.
See you all on the 17th…

4Have a wonderful vacation!
And for those who won’t be away from the internet, there will be discussion topics posted here in Helen’s absence next week.
Regarding the video - the poor guy! He did a good job under fire. It would have been nice to see something on tape about how the rest of the interview went, when & how the interviewer finally figured out something was wrong. It’s nice to see him smiling at the end of the chit-chat part - he looked like he was about to burst into tears a few times along the way.
I hope he’s a reasonably good accountant - the least the BBC could do now is to hire him!

5I read about the event in the newspaper here a week or so ago. The fellow acquited himself as well as any other pundit, and once he regained his balance, held forth with enough informed sounding vaguaries to fool everyone to the end. :)

6the confusion started because the intended guest had the same name as the interview candidate…

7Eliza, the funny thing is, the interviewer evidently didn’t realize he was the wrong ‘guy’ (Guy Goma instead of Guy Kewney) throughout the whole interview!
I looked for a clip with the whole interview and and an explanation of how it was a mistake but I couldn’t find both together in one clip. So here’s the whole interview, now you know the situation:

8thank you for that, Helen! Its so much better seeing it than reading about it!

9Guy’s face when he realizes the mistake is priceless, isn’t it? :)

10I’m not sure how to embed it here, but here is a picture of Guy Kewney: http://www.bbcworld.com/content/clickonline/archive_2004/week45_2004/thisweek/images/guy.jpg
They are dead ringers, aren’t they? ;)

11For three days now I have used self control and not commented on what caught my attention first in this peace. It is a wonderful example of my question - why do women wear low cut dresses and then somehow get upset if they catch a man appreciating that aspect of their beauty? This lady adds to that by wearing a necklace which draws further attention to this wonderful aspect of being a woman. I think I will start watching more International New shows. ;-)

12I noticed the accenting neclace too, but I wasn’t going to be the first one to say something! oh my.

13I have to say, I noticed it right away too and almost posted something about how you’d think someone would have said something to her before they went on air…decided just to assume that she likes the effect, of the necklace accentuating the cleavage shadow & making it look like a cavern! :)

14When I originally read “BBC Snafu” and saw the still picture before I hit the arrow to play, I thought the snafu was going to be that she fell out of the top of her dress!
