I like this - I think there are lots of good issues about prayer raised in it. Like Mr. Deity’s explanation of why he doesn’t answer prayer:
“There’s no incentive. If somebody prayers to me and things go well, who gets the credit? Me! But if they pray to me and things don’t go well, who gets the blame? Not me! I’m gonna mess with that by stepping in and putting my nose where it doesn’t belong?”
thankyou eliza. I enjoyed it. Mr. Deity’s explanation of how the point of prayer isn’t the answer was insigtful. It reminded me of Lucius Shepard’s Handbook of American Prayer, which is brilliant in general and is totally worth reading just for the last couple lines (now don’t go skipping ahead–you’ll ruin all their significance).
Is the dem’s/great spirit thing based on some actual reality?
Thanks for the tip, trissa - you’re right - there are now six! Last week there were 4, and two days ago there were 5. The 6th was added yesterday, & was clearly timed for this weekend. (It also explains, quickly, who Larry is.) These people are on a roll!
Benjamin - it rings a bell, like there was some splash in the news several years back about a Democratic National Convention using “great spirit” instead of “God” - doesn’t it sound like something the Dems might do? But I googled & didn’t find anything about it…anyone remember (or find) anything about this?
Karen - I think I’ve figured out how to turn it on ;-) the problem is, we don’t have an antenna & we don’t subscribe to cable & the ads and stupid stuff on TV drive me crazy! I can always catch the first year’s episodes of “Mr Deity” when the series comes out on DVD in a few years - after the show catches on and becomes wildly popular in the U.S. ;-)
Anyone besides me giving the Super Bowl a miss today? And could someone please update me on the amazing new ads that play during half-time, so I don’t appear SO out of touch on Monday at work? ;-)

Brian was interviewed at TAM5 and he said he is hoping to get a buyer for the concept who will turn it into a half hour TV series.
