Alban Institute Technology and Faith Conversation

I’m in Virginia today for a one day Technology and Faith Conversation at the Alban Institute.

About twenty people are here to participate in the conversation, mostly from out of town. Looking at the participant list, some are pastors, some work with online content related to religion/faith communities (bloggers, editors) and some are web 2.0 developers. Some were already known to the Alban Institute. Others were invited based on referrals. At least one was invited because their site came up in a Google search (me :)).

The day will be part presentation, part group discussion. A guide for faith communities will be produced based on it, to help faith communities use web 2.0 more effectively. I think it will be online on the Congregational Resource Guide site (CRG is part of the Alban Institute).

I don’t know anyone else here - or, I didn’t, until we had a group dinner last night for any participants interested. There I met Anne who organized the event, also another Helen who is a social media strategist and blogger, Allen who is developing online solutions to help faith communities network better, Jeremy who develops and builds websites for New York’s PBS station, John who coordinates a Social Justice ministry in Boston and works for the Congregational Resource Guide and Heidi (one of today’s presenters) from Texas A&M University who specialises in Computer-Mediated Communication and Practical Theology.

I’m excited to be involved in this. I’m looking forward to meeting the rest of the participants today and hearing what they have to say.

Pam, yes, this was certainly an interesting event to be invited to participate in.

Randy, I took some notes, mostly on the formal presentation, which was excellent.

My comments on yesterday are now up.
