I realize I’m a lot more laissez faire about this than most people. My dad used to say “You’ll eat a ton of dirt before you die”. Clearly an exageration, but he’s touching on a certain truth. I think everyone has a line for how finicky they are about sanitation, and probably most of us in the west have that line in a fairly safe place, including me, although my line may be lower than many =)
Then again, from a pizza delivery person perspective (yes, I did that once upon a time), that would be *totally* not cool. I’d eat it, but I sure as hell wouldn’t have delivered it. =)
I don’t think we should be too hard on the pizza delivery guy. We could be making the fundamental attribution error. He could be a really nice guy who would very much rather have *not* delivered the pizza, but who is in a work situation where that choice was too painful an option for him. What if his boss is a real jerk, who … would have just chewed him out over the incident, for instance? What if he feels he would get fired, and kind of desperately needs the job to help pay for his sick 5 year old kid’s medication? etc. etc.

1Gee, that explains alot about that last pizza we had delivered!

2Eliza, I’m sorry to hear it was your pizza!
I think there has to be a sequel to this involving a call to the pizza store and a refund. Maybe even a firing too.

4It would be a big deal to me!

5Here’s an interesting post about the five second rule (what I call the three second rule).

6Benjamin, as you said it would be totally not cool to do that with a pizza you’re delivering to someone else. I’m glad you wouldn’t have delivered it!
If you want to eat food that’s been on the ground for a few seconds I guess that’s up to you :)

9But Benjamin, if he needed the job desperately then it would have been a good idea to be more careful with the pizza.
