thanks for sharing this. I’m reminded how women have forgotten and/or it is not talked about anymore - but this was a common practice in the past.

The last time I checked, the LaLeche League provides breastmilk to hospitals as requested. While, this is not the same as “breastfeeding the child”, it is providing the breastmilk. It is the perfect food for an infant.

As a healthy woman, Salma’s body would have quickly produced more. She did not short change her daugher in any way. The story of her grandmother had already modeled for her how to respond. :)

Thinking about it more, I would also point out that if her milk had let down from the baby’s crying, it would have been a waste not to offer it to the child.

I do appreciate her willingness to make herself vunerable in front of the camera.

    Thanks for your comment, Elaine.

I thought it was neat that she was following her great-grandmother’s example. Maybe she would never have had the idea to breastfeed someone else’s hungry child otherwise.

I guess she’s used to the camera :) but she seemed very natural and spontaneous about this, not like she was trying to impress people. Simply trying to help in a way she’d witnessed from her great-grandmother.
